Softball coaches at Kilgore Independent School District in Texas are being sued after allegedly interrogating an 18-year-old girl about her sexuality.
The unnamed student was reportedly accosted by Rhonda Fletcher and Cassandra Newell in the changing rooms after a softball game last March. The two coaches are said to have locked the door and questioned the girl about her sexual orientation – and whether she was in a relationship with another student.
The student claims that Ms Fletcher and Ms Newell began shouting at her and made threatening gestures towards her before calling the student's mother and telling her that her daughter was a lesbian.
The student has been removed from the softball team and is said to have suffered ‘severe mental and emotional anguish’ and ‘social isolation’.
The matter will now be settled in court.
