It’s been a year since American actress and producer Meredith Baxter came out on TV to Matt Lauer and the audience of The Today Show. This week, in an interview with The Windy City Times, she spoke of how she felt being forced to publicly define and announce her sexuality.
In 2009, after being photographed on a lesbian cruise with her girlfriend, which she was on filming for a web series called We Have To Stop Now, she was hounded by the media to admit she was a lesbian. Her PR manager at the time, Howard Bragman, strongly suggested she go on The Today Show and out herself before the media beat her to it which she felt would have been “ugly and sneaky”. Baxter told The Windy City Times that she “wasn’t going to deny anything” and that she “just wanted a quiet life”.
Since coming out Baxter’s career has continued to be a success and she currently lives with girlfriend Nancy Locke who she has been in a relationship with for four years. Her new book called Who Knew is due to be released in April and talks of her sexuality as well as many other aspects of her life.
